Maintenance that doubles a washer's life
Front-load washers need a monthly tub-clean cycle with an affresh tablet or a cup of distilled white vinegar — biofilm in the boot is the #1 cause of the smell, and a cleaner boot is a longer-lived door seal. Wipe the gasket dry after every wash and leave the door cracked open between loads. Pull the inlet hoses every five years and check for bulges; a burst hose is the most expensive failure in any laundry room.
