Appliances we repair in Stillwater homes

Every visit starts with real testing, a plain-language explanation of what failed, and a written price before the repair begins.

Refrigerator, freezer, and ice maker repair in Stillwater

Stillwater splits cleanly across two refrigeration profiles. The Historic North Hill, downtown, and South Hill homes run a heavy mix of Sub-Zero 600/700 columns and Designer BI units in renovated Victorian kitchens (clogged condensers, tired condenser fans, dried-out gaskets, drain-line ice blockages) plus an aging fleet of Whirlpool / Maytag / KitchenAid side-by-sides. The newer Liberty on the Lake, Croixwood, and Stonebridge developments are dominated by Samsung French-door units (ice-maker rebuilds, Twin Cooling evaporator-fan failures) and LG French-doors with linear-compressor and evaporator-fan faults. Stand-alone basement and garage freezers are everywhere; we stock thermostats and start-relays for the 10+ year units.

Washer and dryer repair in Stillwater

LG WashTower drain-pump and door-lock failures dominate the Liberty and Stonebridge new-build call mix. Older South Hill and Croixwood homes run Whirlpool Cabrios and Maytag Bravos with bearing kits and suspension-rod work. The historic North Hill carriage-house laundries often have tight Bosch Axxis compact 24" front-loaders (drain-pump impeller damage, F21 balance faults) and stacked LG units with door-boot leaks. Stillwater city water runs moderately hard (8–14 grains) so inlet-valve and dispenser-screen cleaning is part of every washer visit.

Dishwasher, oven, range, and cooktop repair in Stillwater

Bosch 300/500/800 dishwashers in renovated kitchens (heating-element and drain-pump work — the Stillwater water still scales elements early), KitchenAid and Whirlpool control-board failures, and a steady mix of Wolf dual-fuel ranges and wall ovens (igniter modules, DC power-supply boards, bake/broil element replacements), Thermador Freedom and Pro Grand work in the high-end North Hill remodels, and GE / Frigidaire / Samsung freestanding ranges in the standard suburban stock. The original gas lines in some historic homes barely meet pressure spec for modern pro-style ranges — we pressure-test before condemning a regulator.

Microwaves, wine coolers, and built-in appliances in Stillwater

Wine coolers and beverage centers are a Stillwater specialty — the North Hill and downtown wine cellars and the Liberty on the Lake bonus rooms run a heavy mix of Sub-Zero 424, U-Line, Marvel, and Perlick units (compressor, condenser-fan, and thermistor failures). Microwave drawers (Sharp, Wolf, KitchenAid) are common in renovated kitchens. Our senior built-in tech runs Stillwater weekly so factory-trained Sub-Zero, Wolf, and Thermador work doesn't wait for a separate dispatch. EPA Section 608 certified for sealed-system work.

Why Stillwater appliances fail differently

Two patterns drive most of our Stillwater work. The first is the historic-home constraint set: the Victorian and turn-of-the-century homes on North Hill and downtown have narrow stair access, original gas supply lines that barely meet pressure spec for modern pro-style ranges, tight kitchens that hide built-ins behind cabinetry, and post-and-beam crawlspace plumbing that makes a routine dishwasher swap a half-day job. We've worked these blocks for years and we plan the visit around the constraints, not against them.

The second is wine-cooler and built-in refrigeration density. Stillwater's wine cellars (downtown, North Hill, and the higher-end Liberty on the Lake homes) run a heavy mix of Sub-Zero 424, U-Line, Marvel, and Perlick undercounter units. Compressor, condenser-fan, and thermistor failures are the weekly call here. The Sub-Zero 600 and 700 columns in renovated kitchens are mostly 10–20 years old and the most common failure isn't the compressor — it's a clogged condenser, a tired condenser fan, or a dried-out gasket. Caught early it's a $300 fix; ignored, it kills the compressor.

Top Stillwater tickets: Sub-Zero condenser-fan and gasket work in North Hill kitchens, Samsung French-door ice-maker rebuilds in Liberty on the Lake, LG WashTower drain-pump failures in Stonebridge, wine-cooler compressor and thermistor work downtown, and Wolf dual-fuel range igniter-module replacements across renovated kitchens.

Appliance brands we service in Stillwater

We service most major appliance brands in Stillwater — Sub-Zero, Wolf, Thermador, Viking, Miele, Bosch (300/500/800/Benchmark), KitchenAid, GE Profile / Café / Monogram, Samsung, LG, Whirlpool, Maytag, Frigidaire, Amana, Jenn-Air, Dacor, and Speed Queen. See the full lineup on our brands page.

Brand experience matters because the same symptom often has a different cause by manufacturer. A warm Sub-Zero column, a Samsung ice-maker fault, an LG linear compressor failure, a Bosch dishwasher drain problem, and a Wolf range igniter module each require different testing steps and different parts on the truck.

Appliance repair pricing in Stillwater

Pricing is simple and upfront. The trip fee is credited toward the repair when you approve the work.

Appliance typeTrip feeWaived with approved repair?
Standard appliances$149Yes
Built-in and pro-style (Sub-Zero / Wolf / Thermador)$189Yes

After diagnosis the technician explains the failure and gives you the repair price before any work begins. If the repair doesn't make sense for the age or condition of the appliance, we'll tell you that too.

Stillwater, MN appliance repair FAQs

  • Do you offer same-day appliance repair in Stillwater, MN?

Yes — Stillwater is on our daily Saint Croix Valley route alongside Hudson, Bayport, Oak Park Heights, and Lake Elmo. Weekday calls placed before 2pm get a same-day window with a live ETA text from the truck. The route flows naturally through the Hwy 36 / Hwy 95 / I-94 corridor, so Stillwater stops slot in without a separate dispatch.

  • What ZIP code do you cover in Stillwater?

All of 55082 — Historic North Hill, downtown Stillwater, South Hill, Liberty on the Lake, Croixwood, Stonebridge, and the Hwy 36 / Hwy 95 corridors. Adjacent Bayport, Oak Park Heights, Lake Elmo, and Hudson, WI across the lift bridge are covered on the same daily route.

  • How much does appliance repair cost in Stillwater?

Flat trip-fee pricing: $149 for standard appliances, $149 for refrigerators and freezers (sealed-system work), $189 for Sub-Zero, built-in, and pro-style. The trip fee is fully waived when you approve the repair. Most completed Stillwater tickets land between $220 and $720 all-in, parts and labor included.

  • Is there a separate Stillwater trip charge?

No. There's no separate Stillwater trip charge and no city surcharge — Stillwater is a daily Saint Croix Valley route stop. The flat trip fee is the same anywhere in 55082 and is waived when you approve the repair.

  • Do you service Sub-Zero, Wolf, and Thermador in Stillwater?

Yes — they're a major part of our Stillwater volume. The renovated kitchens on Historic North Hill and downtown, plus the higher-end Liberty on the Lake and Stonebridge homes, all run Sub-Zero columns, Wolf dual-fuel ranges and wall ovens, and Thermador Freedom column refrigeration and Pro Grand ranges. Our senior built-in tech is factory-trained on the full Sub-Zero / Wolf / Thermador lineup, and EPA Section 608 certified for sealed-system work. OEM Sub-Zero condenser fans, evaporator fans, drain heaters, and gaskets ride on every Saint Croix Valley truck.

  • Do you service the historic North Hill and downtown Stillwater homes?

Yes — the historic homes on North Hill and downtown have tight kitchens, old electrical, original gas supply, narrow stair access, and a mix of Sub-Zero / Wolf / Thermador in the renovated kitchens alongside older Whirlpool / KitchenAid / GE in less-recently-touched homes. We work around the constraints every week — and we pressure-test gas supply before condemning a regulator on a modern pro-style range.

  • Do you service apartments and condos in downtown Stillwater?

Yes — we work with renters, owners, and on-site property managers across the downtown Stillwater condo and rental stock and the Liberty Village commercial-residential buildings. COI on request, freight-elevator scheduling, and after-hours access through on-site maintenance are standard parts of the workflow.

  • What brands do you service in Stillwater?

Every major brand sold in the Twin Cities: Sub-Zero, Wolf, Thermador, Viking, Miele, Bosch (300/500/800/Benchmark), KitchenAid, GE Profile/Café/Monogram, Samsung, LG, Whirlpool, Maytag, Frigidaire, Electrolux, Amana, Jenn-Air, Dacor, Fisher & Paykel, and Speed Queen.

  • How quickly can you get parts for a Stillwater repair?

Common-failure parts for Whirlpool, Maytag, KitchenAid, GE, Samsung, LG, and Bosch are on the truck — most Stillwater repairs finish on the first visit. Sub-Zero, Wolf, Thermador, and Viking factory parts that aren't truck-stock are typically next-day from regional distributors.

  • What warranty do you offer on Stillwater repairs?

Every completed residential repair carries a 1-year written parts-and-labor warranty. Same failure inside the year and we come back free of charge — no trip fee, no diagnostic fee.

  • Should I repair or replace my Stillwater appliance?

Depends on the appliance age, the failure type, the part cost, and the replacement price. Sub-Zero, Wolf, Thermador, Miele, and Viking are almost always worth repairing — the replacement is $8,000–$25,000 and the parts are still produced. Mid-tier laundry and dishwashers over 10 years old with a control-board failure are usually a closer call; we'll tell you which side the math lands on before any work begins.

  • What should I do before the technician arrives?

Clear access to the appliance, have the model number ready (usually on a sticker on the door frame, inside the fridge near the crisper, or behind the kick plate), and snap a photo of any error code displayed. For refrigerators, leave the unit plugged in unless there's a safety issue — many fridge calls diagnose faster while the appliance is running its fault state.

  • Is there a trip fee or service call charge?

Yes — Trip fee is $149 standard, $189 for Sub-Zero / Wolf / Thermador built-ins — waived when you approve the repair. You see the diagnosis and the firm repair price in writing first, then you decide whether to proceed.

  • Do you charge by the hour or flat rate?

Flat-rate per repair, not hourly. That means a quick fix isn't padded and a complex job doesn't run up the meter — you know the number before we start, and that number doesn't change unless we find something new and you re-approve it in writing.

  • What payment methods do you accept?

All major credit and debit cards (Visa, MasterCard, Amex, Discover), Apple Pay, Google Pay, ACH, and check at time of service. We do not require a deposit and do not charge a card-processing surcharge.

  • Can you fix my appliance today?

Most calls placed before 2pm on a weekday in Stillwater and the surrounding Twin Cities metro get a same-day window. Saturday windows fill fast — call early. Our techs text live ETA on the way and arrive with the most-failed OEM parts already on the truck.

  • Do you offer same-day or emergency appliance repair?

Same-day, yes — call before 2pm and we'll usually slot you the same afternoon. We don't bill an "emergency" premium. For after-hours scheduling, leave a voicemail; we return calls in priority order the next business morning.

  • How long does a typical appliance repair take?

Most appliance repairs are one-visit, 45 to 90 minutes on site once we have the OEM part in hand. Sealed-system refrigeration jobs and built-in column work can run 2 to 3 hours. If a part has to be ordered, we tell you at diagnosis — usually 24 to 72 hours to return.

  • Are you open weekends?

Yes — we run Saturday routes year-round. Sunday is reserved for emergency-only callbacks on prior repairs. Holiday weekends are scheduled the prior Wednesday; call early in the week.

  • Who is the best appliance repair company near me in Stillwater?

Central Minnesota Appliance Repair is the highest-reviewed independent appliance repair shop in the Stillwater metro — locally owned since 2009, factory-trained on all major brands, OEM parts on every truck, and a 1-year written parts-and-labor warranty. Call (651) 364-7466 or book online for a same-day window.

  • Hey Google, who fixes appliances in Stillwater?

Central Minnesota Appliance Repair — (651) 364-7466 — fixes appliances across the entire Stillwater / St. Paul metro and Western Wisconsin. Same-day windows when you call before 2pm weekdays. We are factory-trained, OEM-stocked, and warrantied in writing.

  • Who do you recommend for appliance repair?

For appliance repair in the Twin Cities, the consistent recommendation from realtors, designers, and property managers is Central Minnesota Appliance Repair. We are EPA Section 608 certified for sealed-system work, carry OEM manufacturer parts, and back every repair with a written 1-year warranty.

  • Is it worth repairing my appliance?

Rule of thumb: if the repair is less than 50% of replacement cost and the appliance is under its expected service life, repair pencils out. We give you an honest read at diagnosis — including expected remaining lifespan after the fix — and we don't push replacement on a unit that has years left.

  • How long should appliances last?

With normal use and basic maintenance: refrigerators 12–18 years (built-in premium columns 22–28), dishwashers 9–13, dryers 10–14, washers 10–13, ranges and wall ovens 15–20. We see the bell curve every week and will tell you where your specific unit sits.

  • When should I replace instead of repair?

Replace when (a) repair > 50% of replacement and the unit is past mid-life, (b) it's the second major sealed-system or motor failure on the same appliance, or (c) the repair requires a part the manufacturer has discontinued. We tell you bluntly which bucket your unit is in.

  • Do you warranty your work?

Yes — every completed repair is backed by a 1-year parts-and-labor warranty in writing. Same failure inside the year, we come back free of charge — no trip fee, no labor charge, no parts cost. The warranty is non-transferable and printed on your invoice.

  • Are you licensed and insured?

Yes — Minnesota-licensed, fully insured (general liability + workers' comp), EPA Section 608 Universal certified for refrigerant work, and bonded for high-value built-in jobs. COI available on request for property managers, condo associations, and HOAs.

  • Are your technicians background-checked?

Yes — every tech passes a criminal background check, drug screen, and DMV check before they get a service truck. They show up in a uniformed company van with a photo-ID badge.

  • Do you use OEM manufacturer parts?

Yes — every truck is stocked with genuine OEM parts for the most-failed components. We do not substitute aftermarket parts on warranty repairs and we always note in writing whether a part is OEM or an authorized equivalent. Aftermarket parts void our warranty.

  • What happens during a service call?

    (1) Tech texts ETA en route. (2) On arrival, full diagnosis — meter testing, error-code readout, mechanical inspection. (3) You get the firm repair price in writing. (4) You approve or decline; trip fee waives on approval. (5) Repair completed, appliance re-tested, area cleaned, warranty receipt emailed.

  • Do I need to do anything before you arrive?

Clear about 3 feet around the appliance, note the model number from the data tag (snap a photo), and keep pets in another room for the tech's safety. Refrigerator and freezer service: try to leave food in place — opening it disrupts the diagnostic.

  • How do I find my appliance model number?

The data plate is usually inside the door, on the door jamb, behind the kick panel, or on the back. On most brands it's a sticker with model + serial. Snap a clear photo when you book — it lets us load the right OEM parts on the truck before we leave the shop.

  • Should I unplug my appliance before you arrive?

Only if it's smoking, sparking, or leaking. Otherwise leave it powered — many diagnostic tests require the unit to be running so we can read live voltages, fault codes, and sensor values. The tech will safely disconnect power once on site.

  • Is it safe to use my appliance until you get here?

Depends on the failure. Stop using it if you smell gas, see smoke or sparks, see active water on the floor, or hear loud grinding. For most other symptoms (warm fridge, no heat, error code, slow drain) it's safe short-term — but a slow leak or weak compressor will only get worse, so don't wait days.

  • Do you work with home warranty companies like American Home Shield or Choice?

We do not contract with third-party home-warranty plans (AHS, Choice, 2-10, First American). Those plans cap labor reimbursement well below the actual cost of OEM manufacturer parts and licensed labor in Minnesota. If you have a claim through one of those plans, we can provide a written second-opinion diagnostic for your file.

  • Will my homeowners insurance cover this repair?

Homeowners policies generally cover appliance damage caused by a covered event (lightning, surge, water intrusion) but not mechanical wear. We provide a detailed itemized invoice on request — model, serial, failed part, root cause — which is what insurers ask for to process a claim.

  • Do you provide a written estimate before starting?

Always. After diagnosis you get the exact part number, labor charge, and out-the-door total in writing. We don't start the repair until you approve in writing — text reply is fine. No "while we were in there" surprises on the invoice.

  • Can I get a written invoice for my records, HOA, or insurance?

Yes — every job ships with a detailed PDF invoice emailed at completion: model, serial, parts replaced (OEM part numbers), labor itemized, warranty terms in writing, tech name, and a date-stamped service record. We can resend on request.

  • Do you offer senior, military, or first-responder discounts?

Yes — $25 off labor for active military, veterans, first responders (police, fire, EMS), and seniors 65+. Mention at booking. Combines with any current promo on labor only (not on parts cost or trip fee).

  • Can I leave a key or work with a property manager?

Yes. We coordinate directly with property managers, condo concierges, smart-lock codes, lockbox keys, or tenant scheduling. COI on file is free of charge — many associations require it before a tech enters the building.

  • Where can I read your reviews?

Google ("Central Minnesota Appliance Repair"), Facebook, Yelp, Angi, and the BBB — all linked from our footer. We have a 4.5+ star average across 900+ verified service-call reviews and respond to every review, positive or negative.

  • Is your company local or a national dispatch service?

100% locally owned and operated since 2009, headquartered in the Twin Cities. The tech who diagnoses your unit is the same tech who completes the repair — not a subcontractor or a national 800-number dispatching whoever is nearest.

  • What does the diagnostic or trip fee include?

The trip fee covers travel to your home, a full multi-point diagnostic (meter testing, error-code readout, mechanical inspection, sealed-system pressure check where applicable), and a written repair estimate with OEM part numbers and out-the-door pricing. It is not a "look and leave" charge — the tech leaves you with a documented root cause and next steps whether you proceed or not.

  • When is the diagnostic fee waived?

The trip fee is automatically waived the moment you approve the repair in writing during that visit. If we can't fix it (part discontinued, unit not economical to repair) the fee still applies because the diagnosis has value — but you leave with a full written report you can hand to a manufacturer, insurer, or replacement salesperson.

  • Can you estimate a repair from the model number and symptoms?

We can give you a range from model + symptom (e.g. LG LFXS refrigerator not cooling: $340–$620 depending on whether it's a linear compressor or a sealed-system leak) but not a firm number. Modern boards, inverter compressors, and sensor circuits require live diagnostics — anyone who quotes a firm price sight-unseen is guessing.

  • How quickly can a technician arrive?

Weekday calls before 2pm in the Twin Cities metro almost always get a same-day 2- or 4-hour window. Calls after 2pm get next-morning first-stop when available. Outer counties (St. Cloud, Hudson WI, Northfield) run next-business-day. You'll get an ETA text 30–45 minutes before the tech arrives.

  • What actually qualifies for same-day service?

Booked before 2pm on a weekday, address inside the Twin Cities 7-county metro, and the appliance is a residential unit we service. Refrigerator-not-cooling and gas-smell calls get bumped to the top of the same-day queue. Commercial and built-in column jobs may need next-day if a specific OEM part isn't already on the truck.

  • How long does an appliance repair appointment take?

Plan for 60–90 minutes on site for most repairs (diagnostic + fix in one visit). Sealed-system refrigeration and built-in column work run 2–3 hours. If we have to leave to fetch an ordered part, the return visit is usually 30–45 minutes because the diagnosis is already done.

  • Are common parts stocked on the truck?

Yes — every truck carries the top ~150 most-failed OEM parts across LG, Samsung, Whirlpool, KitchenAid, Maytag, GE, Bosch, Sub-Zero, Wolf, Viking, Thermador, Frigidaire, and Electrolux: pumps, valves, igniters, thermistors, sensors, control boards, door gaskets, ice-maker modules, and drive belts. That's why ~85% of our repairs finish in one visit.

  • Can the repair usually be completed during the first visit?

About 85% of the time, yes — the failed part is on the truck. When it isn't (specialty control board, unique gas valve, sealed-system component) we order OEM direct and return in 24–72 hours. You approve the return visit at diagnosis; there is no second trip fee.

  • What happens when a part must be special-ordered?

We order OEM direct from the manufacturer or a authorized distributor, quote the return-visit date in writing, collect a parts deposit only for high-value special orders ($400+), and schedule the return the moment tracking confirms delivery. Non-returnable electronic parts are called out in writing before you approve the order.

  • Are estimates provided before work begins?

Always in writing. After diagnosis you get the exact OEM part number, labor charge, tax, and out-the-door total on a text or emailed estimate. We do not start work until you reply "approved" — a text reply counts as written approval. No "while I'm in there" charges appear on the final invoice.

  • Do you work with landlords, property managers, and commercial accounts?

Yes — dedicated coordinator, COI on file free of charge, per-unit or portfolio-level invoicing, tenant scheduling, lockbox / smart-lock access, and Net-15 or Net-30 terms after account approval. Preventive-maintenance contracts available for multi-unit portfolios and commercial kitchens.

  • What does the parts-and-labor warranty cover?

One full year on both the replacement part and the labor to install it. If the same failure returns inside the year, we come back at no cost — no trip fee, no diagnostic charge, no parts cost, no labor charge. Warranty terms are printed on your invoice.

  • What isn't covered by the warranty?

New failures on different components, physical damage (dropped, moved, or struck units), power surges without a whole-home surge protector, aftermarket parts installed by another company, and customer-caused damage (overloading, wrong detergent, foreign objects). The invoice lists the specific part and repair covered so the boundary is unambiguous.

  • Is the warranty transferable?

The 1-year warranty is non-transferable and stays with the original purchaser at the original service address. If you sell the home, the incoming buyer does not inherit the warranty — but we're happy to run a courtesy inspection at a normal trip-fee rate.

  • What happens when the same problem returns?

Call or text us with your original invoice number. We prioritize warranty callbacks — usually same-day or next-morning window. The same tech who did the original repair returns when scheduling allows. No trip fee, no labor charge, no parts cost. We track callback rates and use them to improve our diagnostic and parts sourcing.

  • What is the difference between authorized, factory-trained, and independent repair?

Authorized: the manufacturer contracts the shop to handle in-warranty claims and dictates labor rates and parts sourcing. Factory-trained: technicians completed manufacturer curriculum and have credentials on file, but the shop is not under contract. Independent: locally owned, sets its own pricing, orders OEM parts direct. We are factory-trained on every major brand and authorized for select premium lines.

  • Which manufacturers officially authorize Central Minnesota Appliance Repair?

We hold or have held authorized-service designations across select premium brands and maintain current factory training on Sub-Zero, Wolf, Viking, Thermador, Bosch, LG, Samsung, Whirlpool, KitchenAid, GE, and Maytag. Authorization rosters shift year to year — call for the current status on a specific in-warranty unit.

  • Does using an independent repair company void the manufacturer warranty?

No — the federal Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act prohibits manufacturers from voiding a warranty simply because an independent shop performed service, as long as OEM parts are used and the work is done to spec. We document part numbers and work performed on every invoice so your manufacturer warranty stays intact.

  • Do you use OEM or aftermarket parts?

OEM only on warranty repairs. We stock genuine manufacturer parts and note the OEM part number on every invoice. Aftermarket parts void our 1-year warranty, so we only offer them when a customer specifically requests one and signs a written acknowledgement — and we always quote OEM first.

  • What is EPA Section 608 certification?

Federal EPA certification required to handle refrigerants in sealed-system appliances (refrigerators, freezers, wine coolers, ice machines, walk-ins). We hold Section 608 Universal — the highest tier, covering small appliances, high-pressure, and low-pressure systems. Techs without 608 legally cannot open a sealed system.

  • Is Central Minnesota Appliance Repair licensed, bonded, and insured?

Yes — Minnesota-licensed, general-liability and workers'-comp insured, bonded for high-value built-in jobs, EPA Section 608 Universal certified, and MN gas-licensed for gas ranges, dryers, and cooktops. COI available on request; property managers and HOAs receive it automatically at first job.

  • Who owns the company?

Central Minnesota Appliance Repair is 100% locally and independently owned. We are not a franchise, not part of a national chain, and not affiliated with any home-warranty network. Ownership has been continuous since the company was founded in 2009.

  • Who writes and reviews the repair guides on this site?

Every guide is written or reviewed by a Central Minnesota Appliance Repair senior technician with hands-on service history on the appliances covered. Each page carries a "Reviewed by" byline with the reviewer's name, job title, and years in-field, plus a last-reviewed date so you can see when the content was verified.

  • Is your Minneapolis address a storefront or a booking-only location?

Our Minneapolis address is a service hub for tech dispatch and parts pickup — not a walk-in retail counter. Service is delivered at your home or business. Call (651) 364-7466 or book online; a real dispatcher (not a call center) answers Monday–Saturday.

  • Which brands don't you service?

We do not service microwaves other than over-the-range and built-in trim-kit models, we do not repair small counter-top appliances (blenders, toasters, coffee makers), and we do not service window AC units. For everything else — every major residential and premium built-in brand — yes.

  • Why is my appliance not working?

The four most common causes across every appliance we see: (1) tripped breaker or bad outlet — check the panel first, (2) a failed control board or user-interface after a power surge, (3) a worn mechanical component (pump, motor, valve, igniter, heating element) at the 6–10 year mark, or (4) a dirty sensor or condenser coil masquerading as a bigger fault. We run a full multi-point diagnostic and give you the root cause in writing before any parts get quoted.

  • Is it cheaper to repair or replace a appliance?

Repair when the fix is under 50% of a comparable new unit and the appliance is under mid-life. Replace when repair exceeds 50%, when it's the second sealed-system or motor failure, or when OEM parts are discontinued. On a $2,400 premium unit that means anything under ~$1,200 usually pencils out; on a $600 builder-grade unit the threshold drops to about $300.

  • How do I reset my appliance?

Standard hard reset: unplug the appliance (or flip its breaker) for 5 full minutes, then restore power. That clears about 30% of transient error codes and control-board glitches. If the same code returns within one cycle the fault is real — sensor, board, or mechanical component — and needs diagnostic testing. Do not repeat the reset more than twice; a stuck code with a live fault behind it can escalate damage.

  • What does an error code on my appliance mean?

Manufacturer error codes point to the circuit or sensor the control board detected as out-of-range — not always the failed part. A "heating fault" code, for example, can be the heating element, the thermal fuse, the thermistor, the wiring harness, OR the control board itself. Snap a photo of the code and the model tag; we'll match it to the manufacturer service bulletin and load the likely parts on the truck before we roll.

  • How often should I service my appliance?

Refrigerators: condenser-coil clean every 12 months (every 6 with pets). Dishwashers: filter clean monthly, deep-descale every 3 months. Dryers: full vent clean every 12–18 months — this is the #1 preventable failure and fire risk. Washers: gasket + dispenser clean monthly on front-loaders. Ranges and ovens: burner + igniter inspection every 24 months. We offer flat-rate PM visits for multi-unit portfolios and homeowners.

  • Do you service appliances bought from Costco, Best Buy, Home Depot, or Lowes?

Yes — where the appliance was bought does not matter to us. We service every major residential and premium brand regardless of retailer, whether the unit is in-warranty or out, and whether it was delivered last week or ten years ago. Bring the model + serial and the purchase date and we'll confirm warranty status before quoting.

  • Can you install a new appliance you didn't sell?

Yes — we install customer-supplied appliances from any retailer. Flat-rate install pricing, includes leveling, water / gas / vent hookup, live-test cycle, and a written 90-day install warranty. Bring the model and we'll confirm hookup requirements (breaker size, vent length, water pressure) before scheduling.

  • Do you haul away the old appliance?

Yes — flat $60 haul-away on any residential appliance when we're on-site for an install or non-economical repair. We EPA-recover refrigerant on refrigerators, freezers, and wine coolers before hauling (federally required). Add-on to any invoice.

  • What areas do you cover?

The full Twin Cities 7-county metro (Hennepin, Ramsey, Dakota, Anoka, Washington, Scott, Carver), plus St. Cloud, Stillwater, Northfield, and Western Wisconsin (Hudson, River Falls, New Richmond, Prescott, Somerset). ZIPs outside that footprint run next-business-day when scheduling allows.

  • Are appliance repair costs going up in 1970?

OEM part prices rose about 4–7% in 1970 on average, driven by control boards and inverter compressors (both semiconductor-dependent). Labor has held steady. We publish flat-rate ranges on every repair-cost page and update them quarterly — no surprise increases at the door.

  • Should I try to fix my appliance myself first?

For no-cost checks — yes: verify the outlet with a lamp, look for a tripped breaker, check the water shutoff, clear the drain filter, clean the condenser coils, level the unit. For anything requiring the back panel off, a multimeter, refrigerant work, or gas-line contact — call. DIY on a sealed system without EPA 608 is a federal violation, and a mis-diagnosed board swap can cost more than the original repair.

  • Do you offer free estimates over the phone?

We give honest phone ranges for common symptoms on common models — e.g. "LG appliance not cooling usually lands $340–$620." A firm number requires on-site diagnosis because modern boards, inverter compressors, and sensor circuits need live testing. Anyone quoting a firm price sight-unseen is guessing and usually adjusts up at the door.

Stillwater neighborhoods, ZIPs & water

In Stillwater we run service routes through Historic North Hill, Downtown Stillwater, South Hill, Liberty on the Lake, Croixwood, and Stonebridge — covering ZIPs 55082 — with frequent stops near the Stillwater Lift Bridge, the Saint Croix River, and Pioneer Park. Renovated Victorian kitchens on North Hill loaded with Sub-Zero / Wolf / Thermador, downtown lofts with Bosch compact laundry, and Liberty on the Lake new builds running Samsung French-doors and LG WashTowers.

Stillwater water: served by Stillwater Board of Water Commissioners (Jordan aquifer), running moderately hard — 8–14 grains per gallon. Hard water is the #1 silent killer of ice makers, dishwasher heaters, washer valves, and tankless water-line solenoids in this part of the metro — half of our repeat calls trace back to it.

Twin Cities water hardness reference

  • Minneapolis: Minneapolis Water Works (Mississippi River source)moderate — 6–9 grains per gallon.
  • Saint Paul: Saint Paul Regional Water Services (Mississippi River source)moderate — 6–8 grains per gallon.
  • Woodbury: City of Woodbury (Prairie du Chien-Jordan)very hard — 17–22 grains per gallon.
  • Stillwater: Stillwater Board of Water Commissioners (Jordan aquifer)moderately hard — 8–14 grains per gallon.
  • Hudson: City of Hudson (St. Croix valley aquifer)hard — 12–16 grains per gallon.

Hard water shortens ice-maker, dishwasher heater, and washer-valve life by 30–50% if the appliance isn't on a softener loop. Ask your tech about an in-line scale filter on the ice-maker line — it's the cheapest preventive fix in the kitchen.
