1. Worn motor carbon brushes (most common at year 7+)
What it is: Bosch's universal motors use carbon brushes that wear down at year 7–12. Symptom: low-speed spin only, no full-speed extract, sometimes brush sparks visible through the back vent.
Fix: Replace OEM carbon brush pair, inspect commutator, verify full-speed spin.
Typical all-in: $285–$385 all-in
2. Door interlock failed (E16 / E18 / E17 family)
What it is: Door locks mechanically but the interlock doesn't signal the board, so spin won't initiate.
Fix: Replace OEM door interlock assembly, verify lock + signal.
Typical all-in: $285–$385 all-in
3. Suds-lock from non-HE detergent
What it is: Regular (non-HE) detergent over-suds the drum, the foam blocks the pressure switch and the board cancels spin to prevent overflow. E18 code or just 'no spin, no drain.'
Fix: Run extra rinses, advise HE-only detergent, verify pressure switch and air dome clear.
Typical all-in: $185–$285 all-in (service + education)
4. Drive belt snapped or off pulley
What it is: Belt cracks at year 10+. Drum spins freely by hand; motor runs but drum doesn't move.
Fix: Replace OEM belt, verify tracking.
Typical all-in: $285–$385 all-in
5. Main control module spin relay failed
What it is: Module sends fill / drain commands but not spin. Confirmed after brushes / interlock / belt test clean.
Fix: Replace OEM control module, verify spin cycle.
Typical all-in: $385–$485 all-in
