What it is: Filter is past 6-month service interval or is a low-flow aftermarket. First push gives a trickle, then nothing — the reservoir empties but doesn't refill fast enough.
Fix: Install OEM EveryDrop filter, flush 2 gallons through, verify flow rate at 0.5+ gpm.

What it is: On side-by-side and bottom-freezer units the water line runs through the freezer door. If freezer temp is set too cold (below -2°F) or door insulation has settled, the line freezes. Ice maker still works because its supply tees off before the freeze point.
Fix: Thaw line with low-temp steam, raise freezer setpoint to 0°F, re-route or replace door line, verify flow.

What it is: Common at year 5–8. Inlet valve solenoid burns open or coil opens — no water AND no ice. The valve is on the back lower right behind the kickplate.

What it is: The push-paddle micro switch wears out at year 7–10. You hear a click but nothing happens, or you have to push at an angle to get flow.

Diagnostic order
Always start with a new OEM EveryDrop filter and flush 2 gallons through. Half of 'dead dispenser' calls fix themselves here.
If freezer is below 0°F, raise to 0°F and wait 12 hours — door-line ice plug will thaw if that was the cause.
Measure each solenoid coil — 200–500 Ω is normal. Open: replace. Solenoid clicks but no water: replace.
With multimeter on continuity, push the paddle — should close cleanly. Sticky or intermittent = replace.
If the front board doesn't trigger a dispense in service mode but everything else tests good, the dispenser board's water relay has failed.
