What H2O actually means

GE condenser, heat-pump, and ventless dryers don't vent moisture outside — they condense it on a cold coil and collect the water in a reservoir (drawer-style) OR pump it directly into the household drain (plumbed install). The H2O light is the reservoir-full indicator. If you've plumbed the dryer to a standpipe, the reservoir-full path is bypassed, but the float switch and a small condensate drain pump still exist and can still throw H2O.

Step 1 — empty the reservoir (45% of calls)

Upper-left front of the dryer is a small drawer. Pull it out fully, dump the water into the laundry sink, and push the drawer firmly back in until you hear or feel a click. The H2O light should clear within 30 seconds. If it doesn't, the float switch in the reservoir is stuck — gently push the float arm up and down a few times with a finger.

Step 2 — pull and rinse the condensate filter

Open the door and pull the lint screen. Below or behind it is a second filter — the condensate filter (looks like a square foam pad in a plastic frame). Pull it, rinse under warm water until clear, let it dry, reinstall. Clogged condensate filters cause water to back up into the reservoir faster than the pump can empty it.

Step 3 — check the condensate drain hose (plumbed install)

If the dryer is plumbed to a standpipe (not draining to the reservoir), inspect the small condensate drain hose at the back. Look for kinks, sags holding water, or a clog at the standpipe entry. The condensate pump is small — even a partial restriction backs water up and trips H2O.

Step 4 — failed condensate drain pump

If the reservoir is empty, the filter is clean, and the drain hose is clear, the condensate drain pump has failed. Pull the kick panel, meter the pump windings — open windings = replace the pump. OEM pump $85–$145; total installed $245–$385.
