How to read this library
Modern appliances flash a code when a sensor, motor, valve, or heater reports a fault. The code narrows the diagnosis but doesn't finish it — an LG "LE" is a motor-lock fault, but the actual failed part is one of four (rotor position sensor, hall sensor, main board, or the motor itself). Reset first, diagnose second
Half of error codes clear with a 60-second full power-cycle: unplug the appliance (or trip the breaker), wait 60 seconds, restore power. If the code returns immediately, it's a real fault. If it stays gone for 24 hours, it was a soft fault (voltage sag, momentary sensor blip) and no repair is needed.

What does an appliance error code actually tell you?
The code names the circuit or function that failed a self-test — a drain that did not clear, a thermistor out of range, a motor that never reached speed. It narrows the diagnosis to a subsystem but rarely identifies the exact failed part, which is why each brand page walks the code from fault to component.
Will unplugging the appliance clear the error code?
Often, yes. A 60-second full power cycle — unplug the unit or trip its breaker, wait 60 seconds, restore power — clears roughly half of all codes. If the code returns immediately it is a real hardware fault; if it stays gone for 24 hours it was a soft fault such as a voltage sag.
Can I keep using an appliance that is showing an error code?
Not safely for heat, gas, water, or leak codes. Leak-detect codes (Bosch E15, Samsung LC), overheat codes (Samsung HE, Whirlpool F22), and gas-ignition faults should be treated as stop-use conditions. Cosmetic codes such as a filter reminder are fine to run through.
Do different brands share the same error codes?
Some do. Maytag and KitchenAid units built after about 2010 run Whirlpool control platforms, so F-series codes read the same across all three. LG, Samsung, Bosch, and Sub-Zero each use their own code set, so never map a code from one brand onto another.
