Wolf Oven & Range Error Codes F-codes, dE, Convection & Igniter Faults — What They Mean

Wolf dual-fuel ranges (DF), all-gas ranges (GR), M-series wall ovens, E-series wall ovens, and built-in cooktops display F-codes on the touch panel. Most Twin Cities Wolf calls are door-latch wear (the self-clean cycles are brutal on the latch motor) and weak gas igniters. We're factory-trained Sub-Zero & Wolf service.

Wolf Oven Error Code Repair — Twin Cities — Quick Answer

What we fix in Minneapolis

The Minneapolis repair mix

F5 / dE — door latch (the #1 Wolf oven call)

Wolf self-clean runs at 850–900°F for 3 hours. The latch motor and microswitch take a beating. By year 8–10 the latch will either fail to lock (oven won't bake) or fail to unlock (door stays locked after cool-down). Latch motor replacement runs $445–$585 OEM. We carry the OEM latch and microswitch on the truck for both DF and M-series.

Gas oven won't light — weak igniter

Wolf gas oven igniters are glow-bar style. Resistance climbs as the igniter ages. When current drops below the safety-valve open threshold, the valve never opens — you hear the click, you smell faint gas, but no flame. Symptom develops gradually over months. Igniter replacement is the fix, $385–$525 OEM. Don't run the broiler if the oven won't light — same igniter on most M-series single-cavity units.

F1 / F2 — oven temp sensor

RTD probe at the back of the oven cavity reads out of expected range, open, or shorted. Cheap part, $345–$485 OEM. We verify the main board sensor circuit before replacing — sometimes the board is the actual cause.

FAQ

Minneapolis questions, answered

  • What does F5 or dE mean on a Wolf oven?

F5 / dE = door latch motor or microswitch fault. The most common Wolf oven failure at year 8+ from years of self-clean cycles. Latch motor replacement runs $445–$585 OEM.

  • Why won't my Wolf gas oven light?

Weak glow-bar igniter. Resistance climbs as the igniter ages until it can't pull enough current to open the safety valve — you hear the click and smell faint gas but no flame. Igniter replacement, $385–$525 OEM.

  • Is a Wolf oven worth repairing?

Almost always yes. A Wolf DF range replacement runs $9K–$15K and M-series wall ovens run $5K–$8K. Even a $785 latch + igniter + sensor service is well under 15% of replacement and buys 8–10 more years on a 20-year-design appliance.

  • Do you use OEM Wolf parts?

Yes — always. We never use aftermarket parts on a Wolf. Igniter, latch, and sensor tolerances are tight enough that aftermarket parts cause repeat failures within months.

  • How much does Wolf oven repair cost?

Most Wolf oven repairs land $385–$785 all-in. Oven sensor $345–$485. Glow-bar igniter $385–$525. Door latch $445–$585. Convection motor $485–$685. Touch panel $585–$785. The $149 trip fee is waived when you approve the repair.
