Repair vs. replace

Why commercial repair pays back fast

Frozen product is the highest spoilage risk in the kitchen

A walk-in freezer above 32°F for a few hours can wipe out weeks of prep and center-of-plate protein. Commercial freezer calls are triaged front-of-line and dispatched same-day when placed before 11am.

Defrost-system diagnosis is what we do all day

Most 'freezer not freezing' calls are defrost-system failures — defrost clock, defrost heater, or termination thermostat. Truck-stocked parts mean most single-visit finishes.

EPA 608 Universal — low-temp sealed system in-house

R-404A and R-448A (Solstice N40) recovery, evacuation, brazing, and recharge handled by the same tech who diagnosed the unit. No second contractor, no second trip fee.

Preventive maintenance saves the compressor

Quarterly PM catches condenser fouling, gasket failure, and defrost drift before they cost a compressor. One prevented spoilage event typically pays the annual plan.

If your equipment is down right now

If your commercial freezer is warming up right now

  1. 1. Move frozen product to a working freezer

Relocate high-value frozen inventory (center-of-plate protein, prepped items, ice cream) to a working reach-in or walk-in. Document the time and internal temperature for insurance.

  2. 2. Photograph the controller and internal thermometer

Snap the display, any error codes, and the internal thermometer reading. Document how long the unit has been out of temperature — you'll need it for HACCP and any spoilage claim.

  3. 3. Check the defrost cycle and door seal

Heavy frost on the evaporator or drain pan usually means the defrost heater or defrost termination thermostat failed. Verify the door closes flush — a torn gasket is roughly 30% of these calls.

  4. 4. Call commercial dispatch — EPA 608 Universal on staff

    (651) 364-7466. Freezer calls are front-of-line and dispatched same-day when placed before 11am. After-hours emergency is available.

FAQs

Common questions from operators

Why is my commercial freezer warm on top and frozen on the bottom?

Almost always a defrost-system failure — the evaporator has iced over and airflow to the cabinet has collapsed. The bottom stays cold from mass but the top climbs. We test the defrost timer or defrost board, defrost heater continuity, and the defrost termination thermostat; most repairs finish in one visit.

What refrigerants do you work on?

R-404A, R-448A (Solstice N40), R-134a, R-290 (hydrocarbon) where permitted, and legacy R-22 on service-only. Every tech is EPA Section 608 Universal certified.

How much does commercial freezer repair cost?

Diagnostic is $199, credited on approval. Most reach-in and undercounter repairs land $285–$685 all-in. Walk-in freezer repairs typically run $385–$985. Sealed-system and compressor work is quoted in writing before we touch it.

Do you offer emergency and after-hours commercial freezer service?

Yes. After-hours and weekend emergency dispatch is available for restaurants, grocery, c-stores, breweries, and food production. Tell dispatch that frozen product is at risk and we triage front-of-line.

Do you handle walk-in freezers and reach-in freezers?

Yes — both. Walk-in freezer work covers Heatcraft / Bohn evaporators, Copeland low-temp condensing units, Master-Bilt, Norlake, and Kolpak boxes. Reach-in and upright freezer work covers True, Traulsen, Beverage-Air, Continental, and Delfield.

Can you invoice on Net-15 or Net-30?

Yes. Net-15 / Net-30 after the first paid visit. POs accepted from established restaurant groups, hotels, property managers, school districts, and municipal accounts. COIs issued at no charge, usually same business day.
