Quick answer

School Cafeteria Appliance Repair

K-12 and district school cafeteria appliance repair across the Twin Cities covers walk-in coolers and reach-ins, combi ovens (Rational, Alto-Shaam), commercial dishwashers (Hobart, Champion), milk and beverage coolers, ice machines, steam tables, and serving-line equipment. COIs naming your school district as additional-insured are issued at no charge. Net-30 invoicing on district POs; clean PO acceptance from BAS / accounts payable. Before-bell dispatch (5am–6am arrival) keeps breakfast and lunch service on schedule when something fails overnight. Diagnostic is $199 commercial (credited on approval). Standard repairs land $285–$885 all-in. Summer-break PM contracts get every unit cleaned, calibrated, and production-ready before students return — a single July walk-in cooler PM costs less than one missed lunch service in October.

Services covered

What we repair

Walk-in coolers & freezers (production kitchens)

Walk-in cooler and freezer service for district central kitchens and large-cafeteria production lines — sealed-system diagnosis, controller verification, evaporator-fan motors, door gaskets and closers, defrost-timer issues. Scheduled around production windows.

Typical all-in: $285–$985 all-in

Combi ovens & convection ovens

Rational SelfCookingCenter, Alto-Shaam combitherm, and convection-oven service — steam-generator descale, igniter and gas-valve work, fan-motor bearings, control-panel diagnosis. PM keeps steam-system reliability high through the school year.

Typical all-in: $385–$985 all-in

Commercial dishwashers (Hobart, Champion)

Door-type, conveyor, and rack-conveyor dish machines — wash and rinse pumps, booster heaters (180°F sanitizing temp), chemical-dispenser calibration, drain pumps, door interlocks. Sanitizing-temp verification on every PM visit.

Typical all-in: $345–$885 all-in

Milk coolers & beverage refrigeration

Milk cooler service — sealed-system, controllers, door gaskets, condenser cleaning. Same-day priority because milk service is non-negotiable.

Typical all-in: $245–$585 all-in

Ice machines (Hoshizaki, Manitowoc, Scotsman)

Cuber and flaker ice machines — scale cleaning, water-inlet valves, harvest sensors, condenser cleaning, sanitation cycles. PM aligned to district health-inspection schedule.

Typical all-in: $320–$780 all-in

Serving line — steam tables, hot wells, sneeze guards

Serving-line repair for the lunch service — steam tables and hot wells (heating elements, thermostats, water-level controls), sneeze-guard rails, sneeze-guard glass, drop-in cold wells.

Typical all-in: $215–$485 all-in

Repair vs. replace

Why commercial repair pays back fast

Before-bell dispatch protects meal service

5am–6am arrival on overnight failures means breakfast service still launches on time. We schedule around bell times, not the other way around.

COIs on file, additional-insured for the district

Certificates of Insurance naming your school district (or charter / private school) as additional-insured are issued at no charge and refreshed annually without prompting.

Net-30 invoicing on district POs

Clean PO acceptance from district accounts payable, Net-30 invoicing, branded reporting if your district requires it for BAS reconciliation.

Summer-break PM contracts

June–August PM windows let us pull every walk-in cooler, combi oven, and dish machine apart for deep service — gaskets, descale, calibration, controller verification. Cheaper than mid-year emergency calls.

Health-inspection-ready documentation

Sanitizing-temp logs from every dish-machine visit, ice-machine deep-clean documentation, and gasket-inspection reports go in a binder your kitchen manager hands to the health inspector.

K-12 + private school + charter coverage

Twin Cities public districts, Catholic and Lutheran private schools, charter schools, and small district central kitchens. Same response standards across all.

If your equipment is down right now

If a school cafeteria appliance fails before bell

  1. 1. Move product to backup units

If a walk-in or reach-in fails before service, move milk, dairy, and high-risk product to the nearest healthy unit. Track everything moved — health inspector may ask.

  2. 2. Photograph the failure

Photograph the controller, internal thermometer, and any error code now. Required for incident logs; helps us pre-stage parts before dispatch.

  3. 3. Quick condenser check (if safe between service)

Pull the kickplate and vacuum the condenser coil. A felted condenser is the failure roughly 40% of the time and may stabilize the unit while you wait for service.

  4. 4. Call commercial dispatch

    (651) 364-7466. Tell us the school name, district, unit type, bell time, and meal-service window — we'll triage and confirm an arrival time before the next bell.

FAQs

Common questions from operators

Do you contract with school districts in the Twin Cities?

Yes — district-wide service contracts with Twin Cities public, private, and charter schools. COIs naming the district as additional-insured, Net-30 invoicing, clean PO acceptance, and quarterly or summer-break PM contracts.

Can you respond before breakfast / lunch bell?

Yes — before-bell dispatch (5am–6am arrival) on overnight failures. Tell us the school name and meal-service window at the call and we'll triage accordingly to protect breakfast or lunch service.

Do you provide sanitizing-temp documentation for dish machines?

Yes — every dish-machine PM and repair visit includes sanitizing-rinse temperature verification (180°F minimum) with documented temp at the manifold. Goes in your binder for the health inspector.

How does summer-break PM work?

June–August scheduling lets us deep-service every cafeteria unit — gasket replacement, condenser deep-clean, combi-oven descale, dish-machine calibration, ice-machine sanitation. Walk-ins get full controller verification. Pricing is per-unit; volume discount on district-wide contracts.

Do you work on Hobart commercial dishwashers?

Yes — factory-trained on Hobart door-type, conveyor, and rack-conveyor dish machines. Booster heaters, wash and rinse pumps, chemical-dispenser calibration. Sanitizing-temp verification on every visit.

Will you provide a COI naming our school district?

Yes — at no charge. Tell us the district name, exact additional-insured language required, and your contract-administration contact at the request. Typically same business day on initial request.

What does diagnostic cost on a school cafeteria call?

Commercial diagnostic is $199 and is credited toward the repair when you approve the work the same visit. Most standard repairs run $285–$885 all-in. Walk-in sealed-system work and combi-oven steam-generator rebuilds are quoted in writing first.

Do you service private and charter schools too?

Yes — Twin Cities Catholic and Lutheran private schools, charter schools, and Montessori programs. Same response standards as district contracts; COIs and Net-30 invoicing available.

Do you carry Certificates of Insurance for property managers, hotels, and hospitals?

Yes. We issue COIs naming your property manager, hospitality group, hospital facilities office, or municipal account as additional-insured at no charge — typically the same business day. General liability and workers' comp are in force year-round; we can raise limits per contract on request.

What payment terms do you offer commercial accounts?

First visit is card-on-file or COD. Once an account is established, we invoice Net-15 or Net-30 with itemized statements aligned to your accounting cycle. We accept POs from restaurant groups, hotel brands, property management firms, school districts, and city and county accounts. ACH and card payments both fine.

Do you offer preventive maintenance contracts?

Yes — quarterly, semi-annual, and annual PM plans tiered by equipment count and equipment class. Every visit includes condenser cleaning, drain flushing, gasket and hinge inspection, electrical-tightness verification, controller and setpoint check, and a written report you can hand to insurers, health inspectors, or franchisors.

What refrigerants and fuel systems are your techs certified on?

Every technician holds EPA Section 608 Universal certification covering R-404A, R-448A / R-449A (Solstice N40, Opteon XP40), R-290 hydrocarbon systems where code permits, and legacy R-22. Cooking-equipment techs are gas-certified for natural gas and LP on ranges, fryers, ovens, and combi-ovens.

Do you handle downtown high-rise, hotel, hospital, and event-venue access?

Yes. We coordinate dock and freight-elevator windows in advance, badge in through hotel or hospital engineering, and work around banquet, service-window, and clinical-department timing. Overnight and pre-open service is available when a daytime window won't work.

Are weekend, holiday, and after-hours calls available?

Yes — after-hours, weekend, and holiday emergency dispatch is available for refrigeration, ice, and warewashing failures across the Twin Cities metro. A published after-hours premium applies and is confirmed in writing before the tech leaves the shop.

What warranty comes on commercial repairs?

A 1-year written parts-and-labor warranty on every commercial repair — the same failure mode, on the same unit, within 12 months is covered at no additional charge. Some sealed-system components carry an extended manufacturer warranty on top; those terms are itemized on the invoice.

Do you work on food trucks, ghost kitchens, and mobile catering rigs?

Yes. Truck-mounted reach-ins, undercounter units, generator-fed ice machines, and mobile prep tables are all serviceable — we typically shop-visit at your commissary or overnight parking rather than roadside so the unit can stabilize before diagnosis.

Can you provide written estimates and health-inspector documentation?

Yes. Written estimates are issued before any sealed-system, compressor, or major-component work. On request we provide inspector-ready documentation: repair scope, part numbers, refrigerant type and charge, and the date service restored the unit to spec.

Which Twin Cities cities and ZIP codes do you cover for commercial service?

Full Twin Cities metro — Minneapolis (55401–55488), Saint Paul (55101–55155), Bloomington, Edina, Eden Prairie, Maple Grove, Woodbury, Eagan, Plymouth, Minnetonka, Roseville, Burnsville, and the surrounding suburbs — plus Hudson, WI 54016 and Western Wisconsin.
