Most Twin Cities appliance repair quotes land between $185 and $565 all-in, parts and labor. Built-in and pro-style brands (Sub-Zero, Wolf, Thermador, Miele, Viking) run higher because the parts cost more, not because the labor is different. Quick answer

Appliance Repair Cost in the Twin Cities

In the Twin Cities in 2026: trip + diagnostic is $149 flat for standard residential appliances ($189 for Sub-Zero / Wolf / Thermador / Miele / Viking built-ins), and it's fully credited toward whatever repair you approve. Most all-in repairs land $185–$565: small parts (igniter, thermostat, door switch) at the low end, larger components (drain pumps, control boards, defrost heaters with control) in the middle, and sealed-system or compressor work at the top. Built-in pro-style work runs $385–$985 because OEM parts are 2–4× the standard equivalents. Anything written without OEM parts and a 1-year parts + labor warranty in writing should be questioned.

Diagnostic order

How to read an appliance-repair quote

  1. 1. Diagnosis in writing, before parts

The quote should name the failed part(s) and the diagnosis path that confirmed it — not just a price.

  2. 2. OEM vs. aftermarket part clearly marked

OEM parts on built-ins (Sub-Zero, Wolf, Thermador, Miele) are non-negotiable. On standard brands, OEM is preferred but aftermarket on specific parts (belts, rollers) is sometimes appropriate.

  3. 3. Labor and trip fee broken out

Trip / diagnostic fee should be credited to the repair you approve. A quote that absorbs the fee silently is fine; one that double-charges it isn't.

  4. 4. 1-year parts + labor warranty in writing

Same failure inside the year should be covered with no return trip fee and no diagnostic charge. If the warranty isn't on the invoice, it isn't a warranty.

  5. 5. Total all-in number, not a range

Ranges are fine on the phone before diagnosis. On the written quote after diagnosis, you should have a single all-in number to approve or decline.

FAQs

Common questions

Is appliance repair cheaper than replacement?

Almost always for repairs under $400 on appliances under 10 years old. The 50% rule of thumb: if repair cost is over 50% of replacement cost AND the appliance is over 10 years old, lean toward replacement. Otherwise repair.

Why is the trip fee separate from the repair?

Because we don't know the failed part until we diagnose. The flat $149 ($189 for built-ins) covers the tech's drive time and 45-minute diagnostic. It's credited to whatever repair you approve, so you only pay it standalone if you decline the repair.

Why are Sub-Zero / Wolf / Thermador repairs more expensive?

OEM parts cost 2–4× the standard-brand equivalent. Labor and time are the same — the part is the difference. A Sub-Zero condenser fan motor costs ~$385 in parts; a Whirlpool equivalent is ~$95.

Do you give a written quote before starting work?

Always. Every repair has a written quote that you sign before we touch the part. No surprise add-ons mid-repair. Quote includes parts, labor, and the diagnostic credit applied — no surprise fees on the invoice. You can decline at any point and pay only the trip fee.

What's not included in the quoted price?

Sealed-system / refrigerant work is separately quoted because EPA Section 608 recovery adds time and material. Disposal of an old appliance (when replacing) is also separate. Everything else is in the all-in number.

Will my warranty cover the repair?

Sometimes — most manufacturer warranties run 1 year parts + labor from purchase, with extended parts-only on specific components (LG linear compressor 10 yrs, Samsung digital inverter compressor 10 yrs, Whirlpool dishwasher tub 5 yrs, etc.). Bring model and serial when you call and we'll check before quoting.
