Common symptoms

Stove repair, finished today

A stove with one dead burner is annoying. A stove with all four out is a four-meal-a-day problem. We schedule for that. Calls placed before 2pm on a weekday typically get a same-day window, and every truck rolls with the most-failed stove parts on board: spark modules, igniter electrodes, gas valves, surface-element receptacles, infinite switches, knob shafts, and the brand-specific control boards for Whirlpool, GE, Samsung, LG, KitchenAid, Wolf, Viking, and Thermador.

We treat stove and range/oven calls separately because the diagnostic paths actually diverge. A stove call is fundamentally a cooktop call — burner ignition, surface heating, knob and switch wiring. A range/oven call adds the bake/broil chamber, convection fan, and self-clean lockout. If your problem is purely the burners and surface heat, you're on the right page.

What we actually fix on a stove call

Gas stoves: about half the calls are 'clicks but won't light' — a clogged burner port, a wet burner cap after a spillover cleanup, or a cracked igniter electrode. The next quarter are 'all burners click constantly' — almost always moisture in the spark module, sometimes a stuck switch. The rest are gas-valve failures, broken knob shafts, or wiring faults under the cooktop.

Electric coil stoves: the most-replaced part is the receptacle (the porcelain socket the coil plugs into). A brown burn mark there means heat is arcing across the contacts and the receptacle needs to come out before it kills the next coil too. We carry GE, Whirlpool, Frigidaire, and Hotpoint receptacles on every truck.

Smooth-top electric stoves: a single dead zone is usually the radiant element underneath that burner — replaceable as a unit, no need to swap the entire cooktop. A whole bank dead at once is the limiter or the surface-element switch. Cracked glass tops are replaceable on most stoves; we quote glass parts in writing because they ship from regional distribution.

Pro-style stove work — Wolf, Viking, Thermador

Pro stoves use sealed-burner geometry that's brand-specific. The Wolf dual-stack, the Viking VariSimmer, and the Thermador Star Burner each have their own igniter pattern, gas-valve calibration, and spark module pinout. Our senior cooking-appliance techs are factory-trained on all three. Every gas stove repair includes a full safety check on the gas valve, the igniter at each burner, the flame sensor, and an electronic leak-detector pass at the supply connection — at no extra charge.

Honest pricing, written warranty

Flat $129 diagnostic on standard stoves, $179 on pro-style — fully waived when you approve the repair. Most stove repairs land between $180 and $420 all-in. Pro-style burner-assembly work runs higher and is always quoted in writing first. Every completed repair carries a 1-year parts-and-labor warranty.

Maintenance that keeps a stove alive

Gas stoves: pull the burner caps quarterly and clean the igniter ports with a sewing needle. A clogged port is the #1 cause of 'clicks but won't light.' Don't soak burner caps — let them air-dry fully before reseating, or you'll pull the spark to the wrong place and start a new failure cycle.

Electric coil stoves: lift each coil quarterly and check the receptacle for a brown ring. Burnt receptacles cost $15 in parts and prevent a $250 element + receptacle swap later. Smooth-top stoves: never use abrasive pads on the glass and clean spills while warm (not hot). Sugar burned onto a smooth top will pit the glass permanently.

When to DIY and when to call us

Homeowner-friendly: cleaning igniter ports and burner caps, swapping a coil receptacle (with the breaker off), replacing burner caps and grates, replacing knob trim, and changing a cracked drip pan. Most of those are 15-minute jobs with a screwdriver.

Tech-level work: any gas-valve work (we're licensed for it), spark module replacement, glass-top replacement, control-board diagnostics, pro-style burner-assembly work, and anything that involves disconnecting and re-sealing a gas line. Stove work is also where DIY mistakes go from inconvenient to dangerous fast — when a gas leak or bypassed safety is in play, call.

FAQ

Stove Repair — common questions

Is stove repair the same as oven or range repair?

Not quite. Stove repair is fundamentally cooktop work — burners, ignition, surface elements, knobs, and switches. Range/oven repair adds the bake/broil chamber. If your problem is only the burners or surface heating, you're on the right page; if your oven won't heat, see our Oven & Range Repair page.

My gas burner clicks but won't light — what's wrong?

Almost always a clogged burner port, a dirty igniter electrode, or a wet burner cap. If cleaning the port and drying the cap doesn't fix it, the igniter electrode or spark module is the next suspect. We diagnose the actual cause on the first visit.

All my burners click constantly even when off — fixable?

Yes — that's almost always moisture in the spark module from a spillover. Drying it out works about half the time; replacement always works and we carry the common modules on the truck.

Do you service Wolf, Viking, and Thermador stoves?

Yes — including Wolf dual-stack burners, Viking VariSimmer cooktops, and Thermador Star Burner stoves. Our senior techs are factory-trained on all three lines and carry brand-specific spark modules, igniters, and gas valves.

How much does stove repair cost?

Flat $129 diagnostic on standard stoves, $179 on pro-style — both waived when you approve the repair. Most stove repairs land between $180 and $420 all-in.
